One of our esteemed Warriors in the Spotlight, Heather Avant was featured on the Dr. Phil show on December 17, 2015. She talks about how it is to live with sickle cell disease, then what the pain feels like, going through a VOC, and the stigma that we often face living with an invisible illness. Above all, I wish I could have been in the audience to give her a standing ovation. I got goosebumps hearing her give my life story. Watch her segment here.

Dr. Freda Lewis-Hall connects with Pfizer’s Chief Medical Officer. It’s a short segment but Heather rose to the occasion. Her eloquence, courage, and inner beauty shine through. And look at her hubby Jason repping from the audience! #WarriorLove! This is one of the best #SickleCell interviews ever done. Please watch, share, and pass it on! Use this as an educational tool and as an icebreaker with friends, family, colleagues, and the community. In sum, there is no ability to comment, but Dr. Phil needs to know that there are thousands of us, and that Heather Avant represented us so well.
