Last year, I didn’t hear about World Sickle Cell Day until after the fact. The World Health Organization in conjuction with the United Nations have chosen June 19th as the official sickle cell day all over the world.
As I’m reading news feeds, it looks like almost every chapter in the US is planning something to commemorate the occasion this year. This is great news, and I can’t wait to join the celebration in the Northwest.
It is imperative that all of us stand up and do something to mark the day! In addition, check the events calendar, or just Google “Sickle Cell Events” to find a planned event near you. We all must stand together and speak up to continue to spread awareness about sickle cell. Tell your friends and family, tell your colleagues.
Celebrate your life and health! God is good. Therefore, get out, get involved, and do something special!
