On Sunday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. ET, NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins and NIH senior investigator Dr. John Tisdale will be part of a CBS 60 Minutes segment on the search for better treatments and a cure for sickle cell disease. The segment captures Dr. Tisdale’s clinical trial at the NIH Clinical Center where he and his team are using gene therapy to reduce the debilitating complications of this disease. If effective, gene therapy would improve treatment options for the millions of people around the world who suffer from sickle cell disease. NIH has a legacy of science addressing the burden of sickle cell disease and we are proud these advances and promising opportunities for a potential cure will be covered during Sunday’s episode.
