What part of Africa? There are Foundations in Nigeria with experts supporting sickle cell patients. Find out more about the hospital she's being receiving treatment. Get as much info as possible. Try google sickle cell foundation Lagos.

Tina, a diuretic, whether natural or not, will not help vasculitis and could make it worse. There is a whole section on vasculitis in the waterfall diet book (paperback edition). You may find that very helpful, and there is a good chance it would help you get off the Prednisone. Try to get the new 2010 edition (from Amazon UK) if you can, and let us know how you get on.

I travel extensively. I am about to travel the world in the next year. I get travel insurance, I travel with vitamins, homeopathic remedies, emergen C, and various other things. I have my medical records on a flash drive with current labs, and my doctors email addresses.

I rest when tired, even if it means staying in my room when I wanted to be out and about. I travel with pain meds. Generally a 90 day supply at a time.I also travel with antibiotics, and anti nausea meds. See a travel doctor before you leave and inform them where you will be in the world and take precautions (shots or avoid that part of the world) Most important eat healthy, lots of fruits and vegetables. If you eat well you can really avoid a lot of problems.

Hi, my name is Sharon a mother of a 9yr old with sickle cell. Just a wk ago our Dr told us our TCD is really high, must start a blood transfusion follow by bone marrow. I'm scared right now, over the yrs I've accept what comes with SC, now the bone marrow I want to make sure I'm not cutting her life short. I know only GOD holds the key to her life. Hearing stories on how long a person can really beat this open my eyes.

Hi everyone, it feels really good to know I'm not the only one that feels this way, I am quite lucky in the sense that I rarely have crises but my problem has always been really deep jaundince, ever since I was a kid people would ask me what was wrong with my eyes, why were my eyes yellow e.t.c and I would feel terrible and cry a lot. It made me shy, insecure and self concious, I loved making friends but avoided it because at the back of my mind I knew those painful questions would follow, but I thank God I have a wonderful family and few friends that care about me,and despite the jaundice/SS, I'm a banker and a have a wonderful husband and a beautiful daughter. I want to let u all know that there is hope, when I look in the mirror my eyes are white, not yellow anymore, thanks to an amazing new drug produced in nigeria called solamin. Basically what it does is reverses and inhibits the sickling of the red blood cells, I have been using it for about a month now and re- took my genotype test today and it came out AA, it sounds too good to be true but it is, There is hope everyone :) from my blackberry

I'm proud of you, the battle continues, and may the Lord give us victory, We just set up a Sickle Cell Support Center in Abuja and at 53 I believe all things work together for good, because we are not biological accidents, and God created us for a purpose which shall be fulfilled
