Story of my first crises. A lovely family day at the beach, went awry with sickle cell…and so it began. Share your sickle cell first crises story in the comments section.
Hey Shakirah, start hydrating like you’re a camel! Drink, drink, drink, and take some pain meds if you are feeling pain. Try to avoid stress, and sleep for a few hours extra. This is what sometimes helps me to curtail a crises. Sometimes, nothing you can do will hold back the tide though; and you just have to ride it out. I hope you feel better soon. Plenty of water as mentioned, but also dont forget to breathe.
I found that often my lack of deep breathing added to the problem. Im not on FB but feel free to reach me at t3arrivals@yahoo.co.uk. Im sure you’ll find plenty of support from the FB group.
Drink lots of water. I have SCD but fortunately for me, i have pain like twice a year and i don”t need to visit the hospital, i just pop a pill and the pain goes in a few minutes. I haven’t been to the hospital in like 5yrs. However, i suffer from malaria a lot as i live in Africa and i do have jaundice all the time. These are my major SCD challanges.
I need someone to talk to. I feel a crisis coming on, it sucks to be in pain and be able to do nothing about it. Any suggestion for coping?
